The Web 2.0 Course started on 11th October 2010 at Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria and is expected to end on 15th October 2010. It was jointly organised by CTA, Netherlands and RSUST, Port Harcourt. It brought the participants from the Universities, Research Institutes as well as other Academic and Research Stakeholders towards exposing them in Web 2.0 tools. The workshop is aimed at improving the research and teaching output of all participants.
The workshop enlightened all participants on the proper ways of utilizing Google mail towards enhancing teaching and research. Through the use of Web 2.0, one would be able to know how to do some level of individual publishing through www.bloggers.com which could be utilized to interact with other scientists and students. This could be very useful in doing some level of peer review of scientific publications. The Course also exposes participants to the various ways of checking plagiarism particularly through the use of the website www.turnitin.com.
At the end of the workshop, the Scientists are expected to go back to their various Institutions as better Researchers, Teachers, Community and Rural Developers. In addition, they should be able to educate other Scientists in their various Institutions on return. The workshop Instructors were Mr. Johnson Opigo who represented CTA and Richard Lamptey from Ghana.
